WELCOME TO FRUITBREEDOMICS

The objective of FRUITBREEDOMICS is to improve the efficiency of fruit breeding (apple and peach but many tools will also benefit to other species of the Rosaceae family) by bridging the gap between scientific genetics research and application in breeding. FruitBreedomics will: - provide molecular and bioinformatics breeding tools to improve selection efficiency, - provide superior pre-breeding material to meet grower and consumer demands for healthy cultivars of high quality that can be used in future breeding programmes. The consortium is composed of 24 partners: 18 research institutes from Europe and Israel, South Africa, New Zealand and China and 6 small medium enterprises. The UE funding amounts a total of 6 M€ but the resources mobilized will be a total of 10 M€. The project will last 4.5 years starting 1st March 2011.

PhD position on plant biochemistry and molecular biology

The French National Institute for Agronomic Research (INRA) offers a PhD position for a joined research project between the Biopolymers, Interactions, Assemblies (BIA) laboratory and the Horticulture and Seed Research Institute (IRHS) located on the Angers-Nantes Center. The subject concerns the study of the enzymatic consortia involved in the cell wall reshuffling during fleshy fruit development and ripening. A special focus will be made on the mechanisms of hemicelluloses structural evolutions in apple by integrating cell wall biochemistry and enzymology approaches with proteomic and transcriptomic studies. The expected outcomes of this research will be the identification of new genes and gene networks involved in cell wall polysaccharide restructuring involved in apple texture elaboration. More infos can be found on http://www6.inra.fr/aifruit/

The candidate will hold a Master degree in plant biology with strong background on plant genomics and biochemistry. Knowledge on enzymology and polysaccharide chemistry will be particularly appreciated. French speaker/writer are preferred.

For the three years contract, the candidate will receive a net monthly stipend of 1400 €.

The candidate will send his/her curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation and 2 letters of recommendation by e-mail to Marc Lahaye ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) and Jean Pierre Renou ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) before June 15, 2012.
